Home / Ann Robinson Harvey
Born 7th of 8 children to the union of Willie Clyde and Laura Watt Robinson in the quaint town of Natchez, Mississippi, where the banks of the Mighty Mississippi connect to the Louisiana waters of Vidalia, Louisiana. She was educated in the Adams County Public School System and graduated in May 1971 from North Natchez High School (formally Sadie V. Thompson). She furthered her education by attending Alcorn State University majoring in Industrial Arts Education. Ann attended college and worked as a Resident Assistant in the Robinson Hall Dormitory until she graduated in 1974. After graduation, she became a full-time employee of the university as a dormitory director based at Women’s Tower.
Ann had quite a challenge because she was younger than many of the young ladies she was responsible for. Women’s Tower consisted of seven stories where college-aged women resided; however, her work as a Resident Assistant prepared her for the task. After one year, Ann made the decision in August 1975, to leave the university and pursue her degree. She moved to Louisiana in August 1975 and worked as the first woman to be employed at Destrehan High School as an Industrial Arts instructor.
The thirst for knowledge was still very strong, so she enrolled in Louisiana State University ((New Orleans campus) and pursued a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling while teaching in the public school system. During that time, she met and married Earl T. Harvey on June 26, 1976 and resided in Metairie, LA. Ann later relocated to St. John Parish in March 1978 and taught in the public school system at West St. John High School, and together, she and Earl decided to make LaPlace home. On June 28, 1979, they welcomed their first child into the world, Reginald Thomas Harvey. On June 12, 1982, they welcome their second child into the world, Kevin Vaughn Harvey, and on June 29, 1987, they welcomed their third child into the world, Justin Bryan Harvey.
Ann never stopped learning. While teaching school, being a wife and mother, she continued her education at Southeastern University, Nicholls State, Tulane, Loyola and an array of other universities obtaining a 30+ in Administration and Supervision. Ann’s husband had a desire to do something different, so he encouraged Ann to pursue a second career in Real Estate. In April of 1982, she received her license to practice Real Estate and placed her license with Century 21 Larry Larousse and Associates. Ann went back to school and received her Broker’s license in September of 1999. Soon after, Ann Harvey & Associates Realty Inc. was established and still exist today. After 24 years in the public school system, Ann retired and became a full-time entrepreneur, wife, and mother.
Earl and Ann soon became heavy investors and formed a corporation called Harvey’s E.A.R.K.J. Inc. that still exist today. They bought and sold over 100 properties and rented over 60 at a time. They purchased land on Belle Terre Blvd. and in July of 2005, completed their first commercial building. The office building had three bays. They decided to open and rent a place to people whose funds were limited and also to have small gatherings that could be elegant and affordable at the same time.
Education has always been an important part of her life, so she opened a testing center where many different businesses sent prospective employees to be tested or to renew their requirements for each respective license.
The building housed three businesses:
1. Ann Harvey & Associates Realty, Inc.
2. Harvey’s Conference Centre
3. The Testing Center
All of the above are great; however, the greatest achievement she has ever achieved is being accepted into the family of God. In her own words, “I am a servant and that affords me to always be ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. I have learned through the years that being a servant is the greatest attribute one can possess, and you must have the desire to do it. When God is pleased, you are blessed.”
